Limitations of vCenter in trial mode

Hi All,

Hoping someone is able to help me.

We are going to migrate off an old cluster consisting of 7 2-socket hosts and onto 2 clusters: 1 containing 5 hosts, and the other containing 2 hosts. My idea to migrate the VMs off the old cluster would involve creating the new VC on 6.5 and then configuring the 2 new clusters. I would then point the existing cluster to the new VC, and storage vMotion the production VMs to the 1 cluster which has separate storage, which vMotioning the other VMs onto the second cluster before decommisioning the old cluster.

I have some questions:

1. Are there any implications to consider when moving the existing cluster from the current VC to the new VC? ie. Any configurations, dropped VMs etc?

2. Am I able to run vCenter 6.5 in evaluation mode in order to do the migration with full functionality? We are currently only licensed for 14 sockets and I wouldn't want to apply this key without being able to migrate and decommision the old cluster. Would this be possible?

3. I know ESXi has a 60-day trial (we don't need this amount of time in order to do the migration), but how long is the trial for vCenter, and is there any loss of functionality?

Thanks!
